6 Tips to Get Through Quarantine

The pandemic has been going on for many months now. Even if you’re not completely quarantining right now, many of us are still staying home as much as possible. The pandemic has led many to feel out of place, frantic, as well as symptoms of grief and loss and many other feelings that we don’t usually feel. Some days you may feel like you’re going crazy. Be kind to yourself, be patient and do your best. We don’t need to be productive or busy every day. Some days you will need to give yourself space and grace, and that’s okay!

I thought I’d share some tips for how to get through quarantine or the pandemic below.

Stream Movies and Shows

If it makes you happy, give yourself permission to enjoy a little more entertainment than you normally would. There are so many new movies and shows coming out all the time. Many of those are great! You can check out some of the shows I’ve been watching online in this post: 20 Streaming Shows I’m Loving Right Now. There are ideas on there from Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime.

Listen to Podcasts

Podcasts are great because you can discover ones that interest you and expand your mind. I love Jess Massey’s podcast Hustle Sanely. It’s one of my favorites. She has a way of inspiring you to chase your dreams without sacrificing your time, health and relationships. You can find her on Instagram: @jessmmassey.

Spend Time on Self Care

During quarantine, I have been paying extra attention to my physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. I have been focusing on the things that I know work for me for stress relief. At the beginning of the pandemic, we got weighted blankets from Target to give us comfort. I have also been staying on top of doing what helps my anxiety and drinking plenty of water as well. Hot showers and face and hair masks are other tactics I use to relieve stress. I really enjoy taking the time to do those things. Essential oils have been helpful for me for a long time and great for times of panic or uncertainty too. I love doTERRA essential oils. If you’d like to hear more about oils, please let me know! I’d love to share about them and how they have helped me.

Take Care of Your Home

During the pandemic, we have cleaned and decluttered a lot. I used an in/out method and I was ruthless in getting rid of things I had no longer worn, some tee shirts, items that didn’t fit and sweaters and jackets that were ready to go. We handed a lot of that over to a friend who said she would post them. You can check out some of what we did in this post: Small Changes That Can Make a Big Difference. We also did some small projects to make our home a better space for us. Here are some details about how we decorated for fall: Home and Fall: Decorating My New Home. It has been a fun experience to decorate!

Start a New Hobby

Hobbies are a positive way to pass the time and to relieve stress as well. Knitting or crocheting is a popular hobby that people enjoy. You can find videos on YouTube on how to do either one. Starting a blog about something you love would be fun too. There are people interested in just about anything that would like to read your blog. Start exercising and eating healthier. Lettering is another popular hobby that many people enjoy. You can check out @radandhappy on Instagram for a class on lettering. There are many other hobbies to choose from if those don’t interest you.

Write a Letter

Who doesn’t love getting personal mail? Written letters are a lost art. Write a letter to a loved one or look online for who might need a letter or card. People who are in nursing homes or rehabilitation centers could use cheering up during these times. Maybe you have a friend who has a child or family member who would like a pen pal.

More Ideas

  • Make a playlist
  • Take a walk
  • Cuddle a pet
  • Play a board or digital game
  • Turn getting your mail into an outing
  • Listen to music
  • Call or video chat with friends or family

Let me know in the comments what you’ve been doing to get through quarantine, or the pandemic. Everyone has their own way of dealing with these crazy times. Try to be positive, or at least optimistic, because it will help you greatly.
